2021/22 Scholarship Update

9 Nov 2022 by James Dunphy

ack in 2021, Young Melbourne GAA set the wheels in motion for the first GAA scholarship in Australia.
Australia’s first GAA scholarship was awarded to Hannah Novalija, a 3rd-year student at RMIT University studying a Bachelor of Health, Physical Education and Sport, with an interest in coaching and sport. Under the mentorship of Sue Kiernan, a PE teacher at De La Salle College, Hannah delivered 50 hours of structured training sessions and games to students at De La Salle College, from ages 12 to 16.
This scholarship has been a huge step forward in our development and efforts to grow participation in Gaelic Games through an exciting new partnership with RMIT which we plan to continue into the future.
This scholarship has provided Hannah Novalija with a great development opportunity and underlined Young Melbourne GAA’s commitment to growing participation in our games as a whole. We hope this scholarship will create an access point for future generations of Young Melbourne GAA players across our codes, and we hope this blueprint may be taken up by other clubs around Australia.
We plan to continue with RMIT, and we are exploring a scholarship with the GPA (Gaelic Players Association). Application details to follow.
If parents or schools are interested in a Gaelic Games module or program being delivered at your school, please get in touch.
